Beat the Heat - Relief for Streetkids of Hanoi
Your support gives children in crisis a leg up on a life filled with challenges.
Xin chao!
It's been a little while since I checked in and I'm hoping that the extreme heat that I see reported all over the States has not affected you in ways I'm seeing here in Hanoi, Vietnam where the temperatures are soaring and the humidity is unbearable.
After volunteering at Blue Dragon for a while now, it's become abundantly clear that we too are being affected by the extreme conditions created by climate change and the problems associated with this inescapable fact of life. Here at Blue Dragon, children who are often living on the street come to find refuge from those adverse conditions that pose threats to their very survival. One of those immediate threats is heat exhaustion and exposure as well as the intense rain, pollution and other factors associated with having inadequate living conditions.
Three days a week, I spend several hours per day with these adorable children in a very large room that currently only has a few fans which offer little to no relief from the intense heat and humidity associated with living in a region of extreme weather conditions. Needless to say, not only do these children have a tough time with this, but all the social workers and volunteers are also struggling. These children come to Blue Dragon daily not only for a safe place to find shelter and food, but also to take advantage of that safety to get much needed sleep that they are unable to get roaming the streets during the day and night. That said, I'm spearheading this effort to get a couple of air conditioning units installed in the big room downstairs where most of the activities at Blue Dragon take place.
If I'm able to raise just $2000.00, we can get two large air conditioning units installed taking care of this problem providing a safe and comfortable environment for the children and Blue Dragon staff and volunteers to have a better experience.
