C44V Episode#2 - Michael Brosowski

"Their starting point may be real hardship, but doesn't have to be their finishing point." – Michael Brosowski

In 2002, Australian teacher Michael Brosowski moved to Vietnam where he worked at Hanoi’s National Economics University. Within months, he and several of his students were teaching English and life skills to the city’s shoeshine boys who were trying to earn money just to survive. Soon the idea for an open football team arose, giving street kids an opportunity to play, meet together and seek help. The idea for creating Blue Dragon soon became a reality, with the organization officially registered in 2004.

I’m honored to have become a part of the Blue Dragon family and cannot emphasize the immense gratification I receive every day I’m there participating in the rehabilitation of such lovely children. The staff and other volunteers have been an absolute pleasure to work with and the time we share is filled with good fun, love and mutual appreciation. I can no longer imagine my life without this rewarding routine and am truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something so worthwhile.

I originally came in contact with Michael Brosowski via Linkedin back in 2021 when I originally approached him to be a guest on the previous incarnation of the Citizen44 with Mark Arinsberg podcast. At the time, most of what we had talked about revolved around his plight to end sex trafficking and the challenges associated with taking on such a magnanimous undertaking. At that time we also talked about how poverty played a role in how these innocent and well intentioned children ended up in such dire situations that they had become trapped in.

In this particular episode of Citizen FortyFour Vietnam, we discuss the more positive aspect of the work this Michael’s organization is doing and how that nurturing and healing environment he’s created is allowing previously devastated children to rebuild themselves into powerful people who are healthy, happy and empowered to selflessly give back to their Vietnamese communities. These stories are incredibly inspiring and provide further evidence of the resiliency of the human spirit and how with the proper support and intention, anyone can achieve true greatness in whatever path they choose. I want to personally thank Michael for allowing me the privilege to be of value to his critical role in the world and invite others to be a part of making a difference in the lives of others.
